Bandhavgarh National Park lays in Madhaya Pradesh covers an area of 450 sq. kms and is known for the highest density of tiger population in India. The tigers and leopards at Bandhavgarh attract several adventure seekers and wildlife freaks. The home of the white tiger Bandhavgarh National Park is for sure one of the most important wildlife preserves in India.

Also known as the White Tiger territory, Bandhavgarh is home to fabulous flora and fauna it is renowned for its terrific tigers. Amidst the deciduous forests and the Bandhavgarh hills lies the former game reserve of the Maharajas of Rewa. In fact it is the amalgamation of the deciduous, sal trees, grasslands, meadows and the stretches of bamboo that make Bandhavgarh National Park home for the 22 species of mammals and another 250 odd species of birds.

The landscape is a unique mixture of steep and rocky hills, with flat tops and level grasslands in the valleys below. The vegetation found within the Park is moist deciduous forest with fine Sal trees with stretches of bamboo.

The Bandhavgarh National Park is best viewed from the Bandhavgarh fort. At 800 meters the fort offers kaleidoscopic spectacles of the entire wildlife preserve. Do not miss out on this fort that belongs to Maharajas of Rewa and lies well within the vicinity of the national Park. Here the Charganga stream as well as the statues and temples will not fail to catch your eye. Even the Bandhavgarh fort is home to the black bucks. The Bandhavgarh National Park is also dotted with many captivating cave shrines. It is noteworthy that the Brahmi inscriptions on the caves date back to the first century B.C.

Bandhavgarh was the game reserve of the Maharajas of Rewa before becoming a national park in 1968. Though it started with just 105 square km of land, its territory was later extended by including two adjoining sal forests in 1986. Bandhavgarh is a typical moist, deciduous forest, so common to Central India. Most of the park area is covered with rich sal (Shorea robusta) forests, although at higher altitudes mixed forests and large stretches of bamboo and grassland can be found.
